Areas of Experience of Attorney Eduardo J. Mejias

Divorce. These are best settled by mediation (which is required by law before going to court).  Mr. Mejias will represent you in the mediation process, but if a mediated agreement cannot be achieved, he will represent you in court. After practicing family law since the year 2005 attorney Mejias has represented hundreds if clients in divorces settled by mediation and over fifty that were settled in court.    In addition, he has extensive experience in the rest of the family law cases mentioned below.

Disputes between former spouses arising after a divorce. Typically, these are: (1)  requests for modification of the terms of the divorce such as (a) the amount of child support payment and child custody time spent by each parent or (b) the amount of alimony (also known as spousal support), (2) post-judgment enforcement of the court's divorce decrees which usually also deal with alimony, child support and custody but request the enforcement, rather than the modification of the divorce terms.

Other cases involving disputes usually unrelated to divorce.   These include: (1) cases of accusations of domestic violence by a spouse or anyone else sharing a home, (2)  accusations of child abuse or neglect brought by the Florida Department of Children and Families (DFS)  and (3) resolution of disputes in court over a man's paternity and the responsibilities and rights that go with it.

Other cases that require the expertise of a family lawyer but mostly do not involve disputes.  They are: (1) achieving a legal adoption of children by their family members or close relatives and (2) drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements that are enforceable in court.

How We Can Help

Before your first consultation with any family lawyer you will benefit from reading the Practice Areas  page pages of this website that apply to your case. This will help you prepare for the types of questions you should be asking your family attorney if you decide that you need to hire one.

Then, call AAA Family Law at (407) 260-6001 to make an appointment for an initial consultation with family and divorce attorney Eduardo J. Mejias.  See Family Lawyer Retainer Fees.

At the consultation, Mr. Mejias will ask to explain your family situation.  Then he will present you with a plan of legal action to protect your rights in your case to the fullest extent possible and ask if you have any questions.  And, based on the degree of complexity of your case, he will quote you the amount of his lawyer retainer fee.  The will almost always be a flat or fixed fee whose full amount you will know before making any payments or signing any contract, not an unpredictable hourly rate.

As a client of AAA Family Law you will be kept informed of the progress of your case as frequently as you require it.  That is why we have a policy of answering all emails and phone calls during business hours with a period of 24 hours.
